To use Ahrefs Brand Radar for Hong Kong, we start with a saved report, define the brand and its competitors, narrow the location, then add English and Traditional Chinese prompts that reflect local buying decisions. The useful result is a clear view of where the brand appears, which sources AI answers cite and what we should improve next. A worldwide visibility score alone cannot tell us whether a Hong Kong customer will discover the business.

Key Takeaways

  • Use the Ahrefs database to discover topics, then track a consistent set of local questions.
  • Treat Hong Kong location settings and prompt language as separate decisions.
  • Compare mentions, citations and relevant competitor coverage separately.
  • Use findings to prioritise useful content and accurate business information.

What Brand Radar can tell a Hong Kong business

Brand Radar helps us investigate brand visibility across AI answers and related search channels. Its existing database provides a starting point for discovering questions, competitors and cited sources. Custom prompts let us monitor questions we choose ourselves. These serve different purposes: discovery helps us find opportunities, while a stable tracking set helps us assess change.

Local relevance matters more than a large global total. A company serving Hong Kong SMEs needs questions about local requirements, budgets and service delivery. An international comparison may surface brands that do not compete for the same customers. We apply the same distinction when assessing GEO agencies in Hong Kong.

Set up the brand, competitors and location

  1. Open Brand Radar and enter the website. Use Analyze to generate an initial brand and competitor selection, or add them manually.
  2. Check the brand entity. Include the English name, genuine Chinese name and associated website. Review ambiguous abbreviations so unrelated mentions do not inflate the result.
  3. Choose relevant competitors. We suggest starting with three to five businesses serving the same market and customer type. Review automatic suggestions before accepting them.
  4. Save a report. Use + Report or Save report. Map it to the correct project if custom tracking is required. Check carefully because the mapped project cannot subsequently be changed.
  5. Set the market and location. Use Hong Kong where available for the selected dataset and platform. Check the active filters before interpreting results. A prompt containing “Hong Kong” does not replace the location setting.

If a selected view has sparse local coverage or does not offer the location we need, we record that limitation. We do not substitute worldwide data and describe it as a Hong Kong benchmark.

Build prompts around local buying decisions

We write English and Chinese questions independently because local customers do not always search with direct translations. Keep brand discovery prompts separate from questions containing the company name: asking about our own brand is a different test from asking AI to recommend a provider.

Intent English example Hong Kong Chinese example
Provider discovery Which GEO agencies work with SMEs in Hong Kong? 香港有哪些 GEO 公司適合中小企?
Scope and cost What should a Hong Kong GEO service package include? 香港 GEO 服務收費應包括哪些工作?
Supplier evaluation How can we assess a GEO agency’s results? 選擇 GEO 公司時,應如何核實成效?

These are suggested tracking questions, not measured AI query volumes. We also use real sales enquiries and customer language to refine the set. In our Hong Kong keyword check for this guide, “Ahrefs Brand Radar” returned an average of 20 monthly Google searches and “AI visibility” returned 40, for October 2025 to September 2026. Those figures help frame search interest; they do not measure how frequently people ask AI assistants these questions.

Add tracked prompts and control the check count

Inside the saved report, open Tracked prompts and add one question per line. Select the tracking locations and configure the available AI platforms and frequency in the report settings. For a small starting benchmark, we suggest weekly tracking on ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, subject to the options and location support shown in the account.

  • Tag questions by language, service and buying stage.
  • Review the estimated checks before adding prompts. For ordinary checks, prompt count × platform count × location count × runs gives the planning total. Some platform options consume additional checks, so the account estimate takes precedence.
  • Allow up to 24 hours for the first custom results to appear.
  • Select Tracked prompts in the Dataset filter when reviewing the custom benchmark. Keep it separate from the broader Ahrefs dataset.

For example, 20 prompts across two platforms in one location require 40 ordinary checks per run. Four runs would require 160. Adding a second language means adding distinct prompts to that total. Check the current plan allowance and any extra charges before increasing frequency.

Read the answers before celebrating the score

We distinguish a brand mention from a citation linking to a website. Neither automatically means a recommendation. A response could mention a company negatively, or cite a useful article without recommending its services. Our guide to brand mentions and AI citations explains why that distinction changes reporting.

We inspect whether each answer fits the intended question, whether the brand is accurately described and which competitors appear alongside it. Estimated impressions and share of voice are visibility indicators within the selected dataset. They do not establish actual audience reach, visits or sales. English coverage is generally stronger, so small Chinese samples need careful interpretation.

Turn visibility gaps into a practical content plan

Suppose competitors repeatedly appear for service comparison questions while our brand is absent. We first examine what information the answers use, then decide whether our website explains the same buying concerns clearly enough.

  • Missing service detail: clarify who the service suits, what delivery includes and where the business operates.
  • Weak supporting evidence: add specific case studies, author information and substantiated experience.
  • Inconsistent business facts: align names, service descriptions and contact details across relevant profiles.
  • Useful content that is hard to access: investigate crawling, indexing and internal links.

We prioritise gaps connected to enquiries and sales, assign an owner and record the publication date. Keep the core prompt set stable for later comparisons. Adding easy branded questions halfway through would change the benchmark. Our GEO evidence guide sets out how we judge whether reported improvements are convincing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does an absent brand mean AI never recommends us?

No. It means the brand was absent from the captured answers under the selected settings. Check spelling variations, dataset coverage and local prompts before reaching a conclusion. An empty result is a reason to investigate, not proof of universal absence.

Why does our own ChatGPT answer differ?

Timing, conversation history, location and model behaviour can change an answer. We compare recorded results under consistent settings and use manual checks to investigate discrepancies, rather than treating one conversation as a final verdict.

Can we track Cantonese questions?

We can enter the wording customers use as custom prompts where the selected platform supports the check. Written Traditional Chinese and conversational Cantonese should be separate groups if both matter commercially. We would not combine them and claim the result represents every Chinese speaking customer.

Do we need to buy access to every platform?

We start with the platforms relevant to the audience and the access already available. Database access and custom tracking allowances can differ by subscription. Check the current account settings before purchasing more coverage.

Will improving the score guarantee more enquiries?

No. We assess visibility alongside website visits, relevant enquiries and sales outcomes. Better coverage can reveal progress, but the business still needs a persuasive offer and a working enquiry journey.
